*)these biographies will be translated the coming days/weeks ... patience please

Hans Kerkhoff, presenter of radio programs from the period 1955-1981 wrote in the booklet of the 10CD-box 'Het Puik van Zoete Kelen' (The cream of glorious voices), a list of 100 vocalists, according to him a representative picture of the art of singing in the Netherlands in the 20th century. In this list exist also two singers of Belgian birth: " ... all great singers from the period before 1930 I (Hans Kerkhoff) only know from their recordings, also the Belgians Morrison and Van Bosch, who I put in this release because the most important part of their career took place in the Netherlands and because they were very much beloved by the public ... "
These singers I already had put in the list of singers of Dutch Divas and I added some more singers. Vocalists from whom a major part of their career took place in the Netherlands and who settled down in this country, like Desiré Pauwels, Hélène Ludolph and Berthe Seroen, but also vocalists as Henri Dons, Irma Lozin, Betsy Judels-Kamphuijzen and Emma Luart, who sang here in a great number of performances. The others appeared here less frequent - Van Dyck, Huberty, Dister, and Vécray - or even don't sang here at all: Faniard and Sterkens. The biographies of those two singers were however of such interest that I wouldn't withhold them to you.

For Flemish visitors possibly also interesting:

  • Cornelis Schell (bass), Koninklijke Vlaamse Opera Antwerp, 1956-1958, 1961 (in Dutch)
  • Gerard van den Berk (tenor), De Pater Damiaan Cantate - recordings from 1936 of these cantata, sung during the ceremonies of the re-funeral of Pater (Father) Damiaan. (in Dutch)
