Hello Joop,
I just came across your Dutch Divas site, and I must say it
is excellent, interesting and well structured with fine picures.
That's what led me to you site, as I am looking for pictures
of some dutch sopranos who have sung the role of Isolde. I am
a passionate admirer and collector of the aria "Mild und
leise" from Tristan und Isolde and until now I have found
more than 250 versions from more than 140 singers! I am
about to build an own website devoted to the "Liebestod"
and am searching for pictures of the various singers. Do you
by chance have a picture of Mina Bolotine and do you know the
soprano Irma de
Keukelaire? The latter sung the Isolde 1943 in Antwerpen. I have
never heard about her, are there any pictures or/and recordings
from her? I would greatly appreciate any information.
On your site "Compilations" you show the CD "Nederlandse
Diva's". It seems to be very interesting and I tried to
order it through the given link. But it seems to be not available
any more, do you know some other seller?
Best regards
Dr. Dirk Körschenhausen

Hello Dirk,
With your mail I heard for the first time about the soprano Irma
de Keukelaire. I'm almost certain she is Belgian/ Flemish. I
found on this site information about her. Contact the webmaster:
The link on the Kruidvat has changed. I have
placed the new link on my site. The cd you mentioned is still
available. For 4.06 Euro. Lots of success with your new site.
Send me a mail when it's on the air. And thanks for the praising
words about my site!
Best regards

Dear Joop
Your website was referred to me by a Dutch friend. My interest
is that my grandmother was Liesbeth Poolman and grandfather Lex
Poolman, opera singer and conductor respectively in the 1920s.
Do you have any archive material on them? I would also be very
interested in any recordings that might still
exist {so would my mother who lives in England}.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Best regards
Imogen Matthews
Dear Imogen,
Yes , I have some material about your grandmother.
It isn't much, but enough to produce a page about her. I also
have a few photos (copies). I think that these page(s) would
be ready for my site approximately medium December. I will let
you know. But do you have as a family member nothing about her?
My sources are limited. So, if you could help me, I will be very
pleased. There are no recordings available on the moment and
if there was anything in the past they only exists in particular
collections or in museums. But I will try to find them. My collection
is growing and I know
some collectors.
Best regards,
Joop Lindeijer

I enjoyed your excellent pages devoted to Dutch conductors, and
hope that you might continue to expand it, given your excellent
sources. Perhaps Hans Kindler is too esoteric or didn't make
enough recordings, but surely Paul van Kempen, even if he enjoyed
an extensive career in Germany, deserves attention as well.

Dear Mr. Joop Lindeijer,
Thank you very much for your interest in my list devoted to
the great conductor, Willem Mengelberg. I am
sorry for the late of my response to your e-mail. I have never
accessed to the e-mail account for a while.
If you would like to use my list, please note that the list is
taken from my webpage. That's all. I think your page is very
informative and attractive. I hope I could keep in touch with
you.
With my best regards,
Takeshi

Dag Joop,
I found your site while doing a search for the name MANIFARGES,
and of course found your reference to Pauline de Haan Manifarges.
I may well be a distant relative. My mother's maiden name is
Manifarges, and my grandparents lived in Rottadam and Den Haag,
and for a time in England. My grandfather's name was Cornelius
Manifarges, and he was one of several brothers. My mother has
a cousin in Hilversum who's maiden name is also Manifarges. If
not been able to find any reference to Manifarges, except for
Pauline de Haan, and your excellent website appears to be the
only one with any information about her.
I wonder if you or any visitors to this site would have any more
information on the name Manifarges. I would love to know some
family history.
Many thanks for a very informative web site
Malcolm Bartier
Dag Malcolm,
Thanks for your nice words about my site. I,ve tried to find
any more information about the name Manifarges and I found a
few names in the city Rotterdam, which is also the birthplace
of Pauline de Haan-Manifarges. She was born at
4 April 1872 and she also lived in that city. If I find something
more, I let know you. This is the site where I find several times
the name Manifarges:

From Raymond Wood e mail Raymusicman@btintenet.com I am delighted
with your website, being as great an enthusiast for Dutch music
and musicians as I am.On the conductors page about Van Beinum
I can see no mention in the discography of a recording I have
on the NCRV label, part of a disc entitled "Stemmen"
featuring pre-war Italian singers at the opera in Den Haag such
as Sara Sculeri,Luigi Fort and Leo Piccioli. As a bonus track
there is a recording of a broadcast from AVRO on 25 May 1941
of Beethoven"s Concert Aria "Ah Perfido" by Jo
Vincent with Van Beinum and the Concertgebouw Orchestra. The transfer
is rather gritty, with quite a lot of surface noise, but this
does not detract from what is a superb performance with Vincent
in fine voice and V.B. also in great form.
I hope this information will be of interest.I shall look forward
to future updates and many more pleasant hours browsing through
your most rewarding website.
Best wishes.
Raymond Wood
P.S. The NCRV record number is NCRV 394624
Hello Raymond,
I'm very pleased with your opinion about my site. And I have
already added the recording - de cd was in my possession, but
I overlooked the contribution of Van Beinum - of 'Ah perfido'
to the list of Van Beinum records. By the way it is the oldest
Van Beinum recording I know ! I also ad the recording to the
discography of Jo Vincent. I agree with you about the recording,
I've never heard 'Ah perfido' sung so beautiful, the co-operation
between Van Beinum and Jo Vincent results in the most moving
performance I ever heard, despite the surface noise and other
distortion.
Again, thanks for your contribution,
Best wishes

Hello Joop;
The photograph was received and I have just added it to my Noordewier
web page. Many thanks for sending the photo; it is most appreciated.
Have you ever heard of a concert singer named Marie Helder? She
was a cousin of Aaltje Noordewier and, I think, co-wrote a small
book with her about singing. Marie was the daughter of a Dutch
Reformed Church minister who, I think, performed the church ceremony
when Aaltje Reddingius married Michiel Nassau Noordewier.
Best regards,
Ron
Hello Ron,
Thanks for the information...amazing how much you have! I know
about the booklet, the title is " Klankvorming en zangkunst"
(shaping, modeling sound and art of singing). Some times it's
difficult to translate Dutch in correct English. But I'm learning.
And I didn't know about the relation of Marie Helder and Aaltje.
I even doubt that Marie Helder was a concertsinger, *) at all events
she was not an important one.
Best regards Joop.
*) 09-12-2002, Ron was
right, I even find photos of Marie Helder! J.L.

Hello Joop;
What a nice day for me today. I received you email and also received
one from a grandson of Jacques Urlus. My second great interest,
after genealogy, is music.
On your page about Jacques Urlus you have a photograph taken
at the 1920 Mahler festival that showed Aaltje and Jacques Urlus
and others. Would it be possible for you to send me a jpeg of
that photo so I could add it to my web page; with all due credit
to you of course.
Thanks again.
Ron
Hello Ron,
No problem. I have tried to optimize the picture with Photoshop,
but better then it's now, I can't get it. The picture is add
as an attechment.
Greetings, Joop.

Hello Joop;
On my genealogical home page I have a section on the Noordewier
family, including quite a bit of information about Aaltje Noordewier-Reddingius.
I have taken the liberty of adding a link to your page about
Aaltje on my page; hope you don't mind. You have a wonderful
website and I was most delighted to be able to add the voice
of Aaltje to my page. Thank you.

Hello Ron,
Thanks very much for your praising words about my site. I have
visited your site and was amazed about the quantity of information.
It must have take lots of time to collect it all. Last year there
was a reunion of 'Friezen' from allover the world to 'Friesland',
named ' Simmer 2000'.
Phonetically you pronounce it as : simmer - twa - to - sand.
It was on television and very interesting to see the places where
they came from and where they live now. My wife and I have spent
out holidays several times in Friesland and love the wide and
open country site and beautifull old cities.
Greetings Joop.

Hi there!
I have just discovered your Dutch Divas site which I found very
interesting! I noticed you have a section for links. I thought
you might want to add a link to my new site The Opera Critic,
which brings together up-to-date news, reviews and articles on
opera plus other opera information. You can check the site out
at http://theoperacritic.com.
I would be more than happy to add a link to your site on The
Opera Critic. I think it is important that those of us publishing
opera sites should help each other out in this way, thus increasing
traffic for everyone.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.
Michael Sinclair
Editor, The Opera Critic
Hello Michael,
I'm very honored by your praising words about my site and yes,
I will ad your site to my links page. Your site looks good, works
good - fast operation - and is easy to gone around. I agree in
your point off view in helping each other by placing links, because
submitting to search engines and placing in portals is not enough.
By the Dutch opera companies, you misses one, I will mail it
to you, soon as I found the address.
Greetings and success with your site

Dear Joop, Many thanks for you reply. Is it possible to let
me have an itemised list of what is included on the 10 cd-set
of the label Philips, Dutch Masters series?
yours sincerely, Robert
Dear Robert,
You asked me something! A complete list takes hours - especially
with my typing qualities. So, you must do it with this brief
description.
The CD-set contains about 200 numbers from 100 artists. Of many
of the artist there are small photos and all have a short biography
( in Dutch only). CD 1-5 describes the period of 1905 - 1950,
CD 6-10 the period from 1950 -1996.
CD 1 contains oratorio, CD 2 lieder, CD 3 opera French repertoire,
CD 4 opera German and Italian repertoire, CD 5 light repertoire.
CD 6 oratorio and orchestra lieder, CD 7 opera German and French,
CD 8 opera Italian, CD 9 lieder and CD 10 arias from Mozart (
Italian) and Tchaikovski.
For me, the set was a voyage of discovery through a Dutch musical
legacy.
Yours sincerely, Joop Lindeijer

Dear Sir or Madam,
I would be grateful if you could let me know whether there are
any recordings of the Dutch Divas for sale. I would alos like
to know if there are any recording of Ruth Horna, Gerry de Groot,
Marijke van der Lugt, Maria van Dongen, Wilma Driessen, Nel Duval,
Jennie Veeninga and Greet Koeman. I am specially interested in
Gerry de Groot and Marijke van der Lught.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours Sincerely,
Robert Donkers
Dear Robert,
Thanks for your e-mail. I'm grateful for your interest in Dutch
Divas and in your case, all sopranos. In the discography is a
brief description of a 10 cd-set of the label Philips, Dutch
Masters series, where you can find among others:
one aria by Ruth Horna, two arias by Gerry de Groot ( Carmen,Bizet
and Iolanta, Tschaikovski), one aria by Maria van Dongen, one
aria by Marijke van der Lught (Il Trovatore) and two arias by
Greet Koeman. The other sopranos, pity, I can't help you on this
moment. If you are interested - and I can help you in the future
- let me know it.
Yours sincerely Joop Lindeijer.
By the way: it's Sir, or keep it simply - Joop.
