Sopranos
Aaltje Noordewier-Reddingius Elisabeth Ohms Jo Vincent Gré Brouwenstijn Marijke van der Lugt Elly Ameling

The Netherlands brought forth several great female singers. Many of them made their way to national fame; some also obtained international acknowledgement and esteem. Soprano Aaltje Noordewier-Reddingius mainly was known local but must be ranked as one of our most important singers and pedagogues. Her recordings, made at an age of 60 year, testify of a possession - for that age - of a surprising pure and beautiful voice. Elisabeth Ohms mainly sang abroad, she joined for years the Vienna Opera and also sang at the Scala. Toscanini was one of her great admirers. Jo Vincent was - just as Aaltje Noordewier - a singer mainly known by her appearances in oratorio, passions and lied. She made many recordings, also of religious repertoire.
Gré Brouwenstijn needs no further explanation; she was one of Netherlands greatest and most successful opera sopranos and also made a international career. Marijke van der Lugt debuted as an operetta-singer. She appeared in the fifties at the 'Nederlandse Opera', where she sang in Verdi-operas, but also in roles as Santuzza (Cavalleria Rusticana), Turandot, Elektra, Prokne (Philomela). She co-operated in the television-opera Alceste (1963, T.de Leeuw). She also appearances abroad, such as in London (Covent Garden), Vienna, Zurich, Verona (as La Gioconda) and in German theatres. Elly Ameling is one of our greatest 'Lied' singers. Her repertoire (Lied, melodies, songs and works with orchestra) reaches from Monteverdi and Bach via Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Wolf and Debussy to composers of the 20th century as Britten, Poulenc, Menotti, Martin and Gershwin. She recorded over 150 LP's - put right next each other, a length of one and a half meter - and CD's with this very wide repertoire. Many of her recordings are awarded with prices as the Edison (4x), the Grand Prix du Disque (3x) and the Preis der Deutsche Schallplattenkritik.
