Cato Engelen-Sewing's first performance was about 1890 in Meyerbeers "Les Huguenots" and as Maritana in "Don César de Bazan". She sang in the premieres of a.o. "Floris V" (1892, Richard Hol), "De Blinde van het kasteel Cuillé" (1894, Dopper), "De Tempeliers" (1898) and in "Het Meilief" van Gulpen (1901) both of Martinus J. Bouman. She appears on stage for years in Germany and Belgium. Although coloratura soprano she sang nearly whole the repertory up to and inclusive Richard Wagner.

Cato Engelen-Sewing died 17 December 1961 in Amsterdam.
