|
Jacques van Kempen seldom appeared at stage in opera-performances, only as 'Allessandro Stradella' in the equal opera of Flotow and as Hans in 'Die verkaufte Braut' of Smetana,1916. He specialised as concert- and oratorio-singer and was master of the complete oratorio repertory. He made around 1908 part of a quartet together with Johanna van de Linde, Hermine Scholten and Gerald Zalsman. He sang in 1928 at the occasion of the 40-year existence of the 'Concertgebouworchestra' in the first performance of 'Oedipus Rex' of Igor Strawinski under the composer himself, together with a.o. tenor Louis van Tulder and baritone Tom Denijs. |
