Jan van Mantgem (1903-1973)

 

Jan van Mantgem appeared from the forties at the 'Nederlandsche Operastichting' of Johannes den Hertog in the role of 'Vogelweide' (Tannhäuser, Wagner) and later at the 'Nederlandse Opera'. He appeared in a great number of roles, as Max (Der Freischütz, Weber), Florestan (Fidelio, Beethoven), Canio (Pagliacci, Mascagni), and sang in Mozart-, Verdi- and Wagner-operas and in modern works. He sang a.o. in the premier of 'De kous' (1957, Joh. Röntgen).
