Johannes Rogmans, tenor

Johannes I. Rogmans (1852-1911)

In the beginning Rogmans wanted to start a military career, but he attracted - by the way he sang in the church-choir - so much attention, that he decided to get singing-lessons. He studied with Herman Molkenboer at the 'Toonkunstmuziekschool' (Musical School) in Amsterdam. He made his debut with Beethoven's Adelaïde. He shined above all in simply Dutch folk songs, but also in oratorio as 'Josua' ("... his voice sound like a clarion"), 'Die Jahreszeiten' and the 'Matthäus Passion his art of singing appeared to full advantage.
